This series studies 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John. The central idea—especially in 1 John—is that Christianity is like an online purchase: you want assurance it went through, understand its benefits, and know how to make the most of it. In 1 John, the focus is eternal life—what it is like, how we know we have it, and the blessings that come with it. Together, we’ll explore the abundant life found in Jesus and how we can experience the goodness of eternal life today.

Tab Style 1, Lorem ipsum dolor sit

We believe Scripture is the authoritative, inerrant Word of God, revealing one holy, sovereign, all-knowing God who eternally exists in three coequal persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Out of love and for His glory, God created all things good. Human sin separated mankind from God and creation, leaving us enslaved to sin and distant from Him. Remaining fully God, Jesus Christ became incarnate, took on the sins of the world, and redeemed humanity through His life, death, and resurrection. All who place their faith in Jesus and His redemptive work experience a restored relationship with God now and forever.

We believe that in addition to his general revelation in nature, God has revealed himself in all the words of the Old and New Testaments. These well-preserved and infallible books contain no errors in the original writings and are our final authority in faith and life. We believe that God created Adam and Eve in his image so that he might love them and they might love him and glorify him. However, our first parents lost their original righteousness when they fell for Satan’s temptation and rebelled against God’s revealed will. Now every human is born with Adam’s sinful nature so that we are depraved, alienated from God, spiritually dead and physically dying. Our sin has corrupted God’s good creation, bringing discord and disaster to society and nature. The world would immediately perish if not for God’s common grace, which restrains sin and preserves creation so that God’s special grace can save it.

For Nearly 100 Years

Calvary Church has been a community of faithful believers shining the light of jesus from the crossroads of grand rapids onward.

Calvary is a non-denominational Christian church located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our desire is to be Christ’s Church in this place: a living community of worship that is caring, serving, witnessing and maturing into the people God wants us to be. We gather each Sunday morning for worship, and also gather at many other times throughout each week for learning, fellowship and service.

When people ask who Calvary Church is, we respond that we are and desire to be Christ’s church in this place. The church is different than any other institution on earth, it is the only institution that Christ Himself promised to build (Matthew 16:18). So the church is the mission of Christ, which means that He is doing something in us communally. Christ not only saves individual believers, but is forming a people for His own possession (1 Peter 2:9).
